Plant Tissue Culture Unit, PPBGL
At PPBGL, we are expanding our biotechnological research to specialize in advanced plant tissue culture. Our state-of-the-art laboratory and nursery facilities are fully equipped to bridge the gap between innovative research and large-scale commercial production. We are currently cultivating six different plant species; each selected for its unique genetic advantages and market potential.

Advanced Plant Tissue Culture Techniques
We specialize in micropropagation, a technique that allows us to produce thousands of genetically identical, disease-free plantlets from a single parent tissue. We are widely equipped with laminar flows, autoclaves and a fully-dedicated plant tissue culture lab for both research and commercial purposes.

Our Core Species
We focus on high-value crops that hold significant agricultural and economic importance in Malaysia:
Category | Species | Focus Area |
Fruit Crops | Bananas (Musa spp.) | Producing high-yield, disease-resistant Berangan and Tanduk varieties. |
Ornamental & Ecology | Ferns | Researching propagation for landscape aesthetics and ecological restoration. |
Edible plants | Kantan & Ginger | Mass-producing Etlingera elatior (Bunga Kantan) and premium ginger rhizomes for the food industry. |
From Lab to Land: The UM Plantations Partnership
A core strength of PPBGL is our strategic partnership with UM Plantations, a subsidiary of Universiti Malaya, which serves as the vital bridge between laboratory innovation and commercial success. This collaboration ensures a seamless transition from the delicate in-vitro stages handled by PPBGL to the large-scale hardening and field planting managed by UM Plantations. Together, we maintain a superior supply chain of premium seedlings for local farmers and industrial stakeholders, while championing sustainability by utilizing tissue culture to reduce wild-harvesting and promote eco-friendly farming practices.
Why Choose Our Tissue Culture Plantlets?
Our tissue culture plantlets offer a superior alternative to traditional planting materials by ensuring absolute genetic uniformity, which guarantees consistent fruit quality and predictable growth habits across your entire crop. Unlike conventional methods, our production is independent from seasonal constraints, ensuring year-round availability and the ability to rapidly multiply and scale new varieties at an accelerated pace. Furthermore, our lab-controlled environment produces pathogen-free plantlets, significantly reducing the risk of soil-borne diseases during the critical early stages of planting and establishing a healthier foundation for sustainable yields.
